The 17th Annual Freihofer’s Community Walk Update

The 17th annual Freihofer’s Community Walk was held on Saturday June 4th and was a big success. The majority of the money raised was by the walkers of Team Jake.

Amazingly the team had a strength of 55 people all wearing the Team Jake and Make a wish T-shirts.

This walk was to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation in Jake’s name.

So far over $10,000 was raised and there is still more money expected to come in.

Thanks to everyone that took part .

Fund Raising Events

On Saturday, June 4 the 17th annual Freihofer’s Community Walk will be held to benefit local non-profit organizations and community groups.  I will be walking in memory of Jake Moore.  Jake was an inspiration to many, many people through his online journal (www.benmize.com –once there click on forums, then on Jake’s Journal), literally touching people all over the world with his strength and grace.  He also made an indelible impression on all of those who knew him and shared in his incredible life.

Those who knew him knew of his tireless work for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In the midst of his own personal struggles he always found time to give back so that some other child might see his or her own wish come true.
Jake knew first-hand the power of a wish, as his own wish to meet the Counting Crows was granted in 2001.  According to Jake, knowing that his wish was going to happen motivated him to take his first steps after spinal fusion surgery.  In March, his doctors said he would never walk again.  That following December Jake ran two blocks while carrying the Olympic Torch as it passed through Albany.  He credits the foundation for that and for many of the other opportunities and dreams he realized in the five years he was fighting his disease.

Jake also did a significant amount of fund raising for the foundation, including participating in the Freihofer’s Walk.  If Jake could not physically complete the walk, he would raise funds for the foundation and then have someone else walk for him.

Unfortunately, Jake passed away this month, following a long and courageous battle with his illness.  Since Jake can’t complete the walk this year his family and friends are completing it for him.  I will be joining them, and am asking you for your help.  If you are interested in making a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in support of my walk to benefit them, please let me know.  Please make checks payable to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

With gratitude,

Jim
